Correct http://m-g-s.proboards.com/ not the best of my work I started it in a very bad time right before an inactivity slump. I would love to help!!
My ideas on how to deal with a lot of situations are on the forum

RE: MicroMap Project: Help Wanted
(01-07-2012 04:25 PM)Mark II Wrote:  Hello,

Some of you might remember this project here: http://microwiki.org.uk/forum/showthread...hlight=Map
or the old mapping project I had in early 2011, in which many micronations across the world were mapped thanks to Google Maps. Anyways, so far, we have not yet had a succesful mapping project. I believe we had an organization for mapping specifically, a few months back, but unless I am incorrect, that organization has fallen into inactivity and is probably defunct.

The point is this. I am hereby starting the MicroMap Project--but don't call it YAMO, please, because it's not an organization, its a project, and we have a specific goal for what we want to do.

I'm not sure how I want to do this. I'm thinking Google Maps, but that lags bitterly on my computer. Here's the deal, though. I want to map as many micronations as possible. So, I call specifically on Mac Coat (So, any thoughts Trollface ) to help me out with this project, mainly because he had one started last year that never took root. It would be kind of cool if we had a special area on this forum to do this, it could be Micro-Wiki sanctioned, essentially, a project under MicroWiki, and if we put our minds to it we could do a whole lot.

While I want Mac Coat specifically to help out, I also will need more assistance. So, here's a few things to get the ball rolling and get a discussion going, OK? Each question/matter of debate that has to be resolved will be done so via consensus.

1. What will we use to effectively map the micronations of the world? Google Maps? A simple paint document? (Of course, with paint, its easy to run out of room as there are micronations everywhere.

2. Which micronational claims will we actually put on the map? Will we tolerate, for example, these ridiculously huge claims by Harsharvadan and his country (whatever it's called Dodgy ) What about these unbelievably small claims, like a boulder in the middle of no where?

3. How will micronations actually be put on the map? Will we put borders in (although, reminder, that's very hard to do) or just dots to symbolize where a certain claim is?

4. What about the suggestion I made about it being a MicroWiki sanctioned project? A constantly-updated community within a community, I feel, could do a lot of good activity-wise to MicroWiki and our community. Plus, it would promote intermicronational cooperation and friendliness. Wink If it "slided" with the admins, where would we meet up? In a sub-forum here on the MW Forums? Or in the wiki, somehow? (E.g, business done via articles?) Or, perhaps, a seperate forum altogether if Pierre'de Egtavie (I believe that's how its spelled?) didn't approve?

5. Naturally, there are other concerns. New micronations are founded, territorial and border disputes, micronations going defunct, claiming new lands, creating colonies, dissolving colonies, civil wars, member-states leaving federations, such as Nemkhavia, which does happen occasionally--the whole shebang. How would it all be done? It would, naturally, require an active amount of members, like Micras.

6. Are there other things I forgot that should be mentioned? If so, put 'em down. Each topic for discussion must be resolved through consensus or other means so we can "get it started in here (bob) let's get it started in here Tongue )

So, ladies and gentlemen of the MicroWiki Community, I present to you MicroMap Project: Help Wanted. Now what the heck are we gonna do with it?
Dots, obviously. Google maps (or earth) would be good, since it would be inter-active and we can look at images of them.

RE: MicroMap Project: Help Wanted
I suggest you guys don't actually put "all" micronations on a map, as many of these die before hitting a year of existence. I'd get some rules first and then start with the research. I agree

Exactly. I think that the map should be perodically updated, eliminating the micronations that have gone defunct, adding new nations, updating borders, etc.
Also, I'd like to help. Smile

It would probably a long term thing were everyone gives the information to one person and puts it on a map, although that could take a REALLY long time.

Remembering of course that not everyone wants the rest of the community to know exactly where their micronations are. So far Watchman Island is the only place in Sirocco whose location is known to all, and I don't intend on changing that anytime soon.

The GUM has already done such project. So it is not a YAMO, but a YAMP - Yet Another Micronational Project

no, but seriously, every micronation out there claims Marie Byrd Land.

Of course I don't. Tongue

Well I do know what the Antarctic Micronational Union (AMU) is, and how it's some sort of 'last word' on claims in Antarctica.
